The short answer
iPhone 15 vs 14 (standard): 0.9mm taller, 0.1mm wider, same thickness. Same 6.1" screen. iPhone 14 cases will not fit — the camera module design changed, misaligning cutouts.
Dynamic Island: iPhone 15 replaced the notch with Dynamic Island, providing more screen space and interactive notifications. This is the most visible design change.
USB-C: The switch from Lightning to USB-C is the biggest practical change. One cable for everything — a major win for anyone already in the USB-C ecosystem.

What the numbers actually mean
Will you feel the difference in your hand?
No. The 0.9mm height difference and 0.1mm width difference are imperceptible in daily use. Both phones feel the same in your hand and pocket. The weight difference of 1g is equally unnoticeable.
Case compatibility: your 14 cases won't fit
Despite very similar dimensions, the camera module design changed between generations. iPhone 14 cases won't align properly with the 15's camera cutout. Budget for new cases when you upgrade.
The real reasons to upgrade are not size
Dynamic Island replacing the notch, USB-C replacing Lightning, and the 48MP main camera are the meaningful upgrades. The dimensional changes are negligible. If you're coming from an iPhone 11-13, the jump is significant across every metric.
Should you upgrade?
Upgrade from 14 to 15 if…
- You want Dynamic Island instead of the notch
- You need USB-C for better cable compatibility
- Camera quality is a priority (48MP main sensor)
- You've been using an older iPhone (11-13) and want a generational leap
Stay on iPhone 14 if…
- Your battery health is still good (80%+)
- You don't care about USB-C or Dynamic Island
- Your iPhone 14 meets your needs
- You want to wait for a bigger generational jump (iPhone 17)
